I am painting self portraits because I want to preserve this time of my life, when I am free to make art as I please, to look how I want, record who I am right here and now. They are precious and I want them to last so I can look back but also so that other people can too.
These plates have all been bought from charity shops so I am giving them a second chance to mean something, to be useful again.
It’s easy to break these plates (especially the bone china one I haven’t used yet!) and so care must be taken with those I want to remain whole.
But you never see all of me, nobody ever does. That is why some of my paintings will be on fragments of plates, the facets of me that some of you see and others don’t.
